When Your Celebrant Falls In Love With Your Love Story

When we first meet, we are strangers.

I know your names. I might know when you're getting married, where the ceremony will take place and perhaps a little about how you met.

But I don't know you yet.

I don't know which one of you tells the story from the previous chapter and which one interrupts halfway through because, apparently, that's not quite how it happened.

I don't know the moment you realised this person was different.

I don't know what you've survived together, what makes you laugh until you can't speak, what drives you slightly mad about each other, or the quiet things you do that nobody else notices.

And yet, by your wedding day, I'm going to stand in front of the people who know and love you most and tell your story.

So, we have some talking to do.

Getting to know you

For me, creating a wedding ceremony isn't about filling in a questionnaire and turning the answers into a script.

It's about conversation. Sharing. Trust. We talk.

And I ask a lot of questions

When did you first realise cupid’s arrow had hit you? And where were  you?

Why have you chosen each other out of all the people in the world?

Who have you become because you found one another?

That's where I want to go.

Because your love story isn't really a timeline of first dates, moving in, holidays, houses, or proposals.

It's what happened between those milestones that makes it yours.

The moments that changed you.

The things you overcame.

The private jokes nobody else understands.

The ordinary days that quietly became a life together.

And when two people invite me into some of the most meaningful parts of their lives, it is impossible for me not to become invested.

I hear about your happiest memories and difficult chapters too.

We laugh together. Sometimes we become emotional together.

And somewhere along the way, something changes.

And when I begin to understand your unique journey, despite all the love stories I have the privilege of hearing, that's what makes me fall.

I don't just want to know enough about you to write your ceremony.

I want to know enough about you to recognise you in it.

Then… I have to express your heart on paper

This is where my role becomes something quite special.

All those conversations, memories, observations, emotions and tiny details now have to become words.

Your words.

Your humour.

Your personalities.

Your journey.

And I begin with one intention:

That your ceremony resonates with you and with all the people you love.

I want your guests to laugh because they recognise you.

I want someone who has known you for years to hear a line and think, "That is so them."

I want there to be moments when you catch each other's eye because something I've said has taken you straight back to a memory only the two of you fully understand.

It should never feel as though somebody downloaded a ceremony, changed the names and pressed print.

It has to feel as though it could only ever belong to the two of you, on your day, in your moment.

Because if you've trusted me with your heart, my job is to find the words that express it.

And then comes the wedding day

I understand what this moment means. So when I stand beside you, I'm not telling the story of two strangers anymore.

I'm sharing the journey of two people whose hearts I have come to know.

And for a little while, everybody you love gets to step inside your story and experience it with you.

That is the magic of a truly personal ceremony.

And sometimes, this is the result

Happy bride Happy Celebrant

That hug came after the ceremony.

And when I look at this photograph, I don't just see a happy bride and her celebrant.

I see everything that came before it.

The conversations.

The laughter.

The trust.

The stories shared so generously with me.

The hours spent finding the right words.

And a bride who had just heard her love story reflected back to her in a way that made her feel completely seen.

Her joy was overflowing.

And if I'm truthful, so was mine.

Because there is something incredibly special about being trusted with one of the most important stories of someone's life and then seeing the moment they realise:

You heard us.

You understood us.

You took our hearts and expressed them in words – that’s our story.

That is what I want for you.

Your ceremony shouldn't just tell the people you love that you are in love.

I want to understand your story well enough to help them understand why.

And by the time we get there, I'll have fallen a little bit in love with your love story too.

Ceremonies shaped by your heart. Crafted to resonate. Impossible to recreate.
